3DS and 3DS XL Comparison

In this video  I compare the Nintendo 3DS to the Nintendo 3DS XL. The Nintendo 3DS XL has screens that are 90% larger then the original 3DS. This is the main reason I wanted the 3DS XL. The system is also a lot easier to hold onto. Some of the other differences include the speaker quality, the 3D slider and the home/start/select buttons. The stylus on the 3DS and 3DS XL are also in different places. It is easier to use the stylus on the 3DS XL because it is placed on the right hand side of the system.  Overall, the 3DS XL is a better system than the original 3DS.

Roku Smart TV

Roku introduced their first ever Smart TV at CES 2014. The interface is similar to the Roku set top box but also features input buttons for Blue Ray players and Cable TV. When the user first boots up the Roku Smart TV they will see a home menu where the user can access their favorite applications such as Netflix. The Roku TV will come out later this year and it will ship in 32 inches and 52 inches. I think Roku has an advantage over other Smart TV’s because of the Roku set top box. They already have an established TV product that has done well.

Toyota iRoad

Image

Toyota showed off their new iRoad car at CES 2014. It looks very futuristic and it only has three wheels total. I really like the futuristic look and I also like how it tilts when it is turning. Unfortunately the Toyota iRoad isn’t coming to the United States anytime soon. It is set to be released in Japan and France. The Toyota iRoad gets about 30 miles before it needs to be recharged. If it came to the United States I would definitely take a look at it. What do you think of this futuristic car and would you buy one?

Playstation Now

Yesterday Sony announced a new service called Playstation Now. Playstation Now will allow users to play Playstation 3 games on various devices using the cloud. Playstation Now will be available on the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Playstation Vita and select Sony T.V’s to start off with. Playstation Now is coming to the United States this Summer. Sony is able to leverage this technology with Gaikai. I am excited to try out this new technology because I missed out on the Playstation 3. Gamers have the ability to rent specific titles or to buy a subscription to the service.

Thirteen Steam Machines Revealed at CES

It looks like there are going to be a lot of Steam Machines in 2014. Thirteen different companies are releasing Steam Machines in 2014. The Steam Machine is a computer that uses the Steam OS to play Video Games. I think there should be five central Steam Machines instead of thirteen. I believe that having too many Steam Machines will confuse the consumer.

Every Steam Machine is different and each Steam Machine has different specifications. Each Steam Machine will come with the unique Steam controller. The thirteen Steam Machines were revealed at CES on January 6th, 2014. Some of the new Steam Machines include Alienware’s Steam Machine, iBuyPower’s SBX and the CyberPowerPc Steam Machine.

Spotify is now free on Mobile Devices and Tablets

spotify logoI really enjoy listening to Spotify on my computer. It gives me access to a variety of songs that I wouldn’t normally have access to for free. In the past if a user wanted to listen on a mobile device they had to pay $9.99 or use a free radio. Now Spotify users can listen to their favorite music for free on mobile devices. If the user is using a tablet they can pick any song that they want to listen to. If the user is using a mobile phone they can shuffle artists, albums or songs. However, the free option does have ads. I just downloaded the app to my iPhone and Nexus 7 tablet.

Amazon Prime taking it to the air

Recently, Amazon announced a new way to deliver products. Amazon now has the ability to deliver products to customers via drones. I am really excited about this because it will make delivery time a lot shorter. The new service is called Amazon Prime Air and it is supposed to take 30 minutes or less to deliver a package. This new service seems like something out of a Sci-Fi movie. Amazon Prime Air is supposed to go live in 2015.

PS4 Unboxing Videos

The Playstation 4 came out last Friday on November 15th in North America. I enjoyed searching youtube for creative unboxing videos.  One user boogie2988 decided to throw his Xbox 360 to make room for the PS4. Everything in this video was so surprising. When I first clicked on the video I thought that it was going to be a regular unboxing video.

IGN also did a creative unboxing video. They decided to have everyone in the office unbox the system at the same time. One individual decided he would unbox the Gamecube.  I think he was a few generations off.

Finally I watched a more traditional Playstation 4 unboxing video. What is your favorite PS4 unboxing video? My favorite one was the unboxing by boogie2988, I thought his was the most entertaining.

Blockbuster is Finished

Today the parent company of Blockbuster announced that the remaining Blockbuster stores would be shutdown by January 2014. Blockbuster will also shutdown their mail service in December 2013. It looks like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu all drove Blockbuster out of business. I knew it would only be a matter of time. I used to shop at Blockbuster all the time when I was younger. However the stores in my area shutdown a few years ago. It will be sad to see Blockbuster go, I can still remember going there every Friday to pick movies out.

Windows 8.1

Windows 8 Start Screen

On October 18, 2013 Microsoft released their latest operating system Windows 8.1. It is definitely an improvement from Windows 8. They brought back the Start Button. However don’t expect it to function like the Start Button in Windows 7. The Start Button in Windows 8.1 brings up the Start Menu from Windows 8. I like the addition of the Start Button because it bring back familiarity. Microsoft also made it easier to access your applications from the start menu. All the user has to do is click a down arrow on the Start Menu. In order to download Windows 8.1 for free the user must have Windows 8 installed.

Microsoft Surface 2 is out

surface 2On October 22, 2013 Microsoft released the Surface 2 and the Surface 2 Pro. This is the same day that Apple revealed the new iPad Air. It is interesting to see how Apple and Microsoft have shifted away from computers. They are both focusing on the tablet market right now. The Microsoft Surface 2 has a resolution of 1920 X 1080, it also has 2GB of ram and is running on a 1.7 GHZ Quad Core Processor. The Microsoft Surface 2 comes with Windows RT 8.1 and Microsoft Office 2013 RT. The 32GB Surface 2 costs $449 and the 64GB version costs $549. I also like how the Surface 2 comes with a USB port and a micro SD card reader. It is a feature that all tablets should include. Are you going to get the Microsoft Surface 2?

OS X Mavericks

osx mavericks

On October 22, 2013 Apple released a new operating system for the Mac.  It is called OS X Mavericks and it is a free operating system. The new operating system now includes Maps and iBooks. These are the two most obvious changes and I noticed them right away when I updated my iMac. It seems like Apple is trying to make one operating system for their tablets, phones and computers. This is similar to what Microsoft did when they released Windows 8. The new operating system also includes finder tags and finder tabs, which makes organizing your data a lot easier. It also includes a new version of Safari and more interactive notifications. Everything seems very snappy and is still familiar. I like the new update so far and can’t wait to see what Apple has planned for the future. In order to update your Mac just open the App Store and click download where it says OS X Mavericks.
