Sony at E3 2014

Sony had a big press conference for 2014 but not as big as last years conference. They showed off several exclusives including Uncharted 4 at Thief’s End, Little Big Planet 3, The Order: 1886, Mortal Kombat X and Bloodborne. Little Big Planet 3 looked interesting and is coming out this November. It looks like there are more playable characters in this version of Little Big Planet. Sony Announces Project Morpheus the Virtual Reality Headset for Playstation 4

Sony Virtual Reality Headset

Sony recently revealed that they are creating a Virtual Reality Headset for the PS4. Apparently it has been in development since 2009. The headset has a 1080p display, 1000HZ motion detection and it is connected to the PS4 by a wire. It also has positional and rotational head tracking capabilities. It will be interesting to watch the Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus develop. I think the Virtual Reality Headset is a really cool concept. In order for the concept to work Sony says they need to get the sight, sound, tracking, control and ease of use perfect. They also mentioned that the content is very important. Virtual Reality may be the next evolution in Gaming!

Playstation 4 sales surpass 6 Million Units

The Playstation 4 is doing extremely well; as of March 5th, 2014 the system sold over 6 million units. I think that the Playstation 4 could have more success then the Playstation 2 and Playstation 3. Software sales for the PS4 have also reached 13.7 million. I really like how Sony is focusing on the core gamer with the PS4. Microsoft is to focused on an overall media center with the Xbox One. I think it is hurting the Xbox brand.

PS Vita Slim coming to North America

ps vita slim

Yesterday Sony revealed that a new model of the PS Vita is coming to the United States. The new Playstation Vita is 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter then the original Playstation Vita. The new Playstation Vita ditches the OLED screen for a LCD screen. I think that they should have stuck to the OLED screen because of the brighter and more vibrant colors. Typically OLED screens are higher quality then LCD screens. The new Playstation Vita has 6 hours of battery life; this is two more hours then the original Playstation Vita. It also has 1GB of memory built in. The new PS Vita Slim is coming out this spring for $199. Sony is also releasing a bundle that comes with Borderlands 2, an 8GB memory card and six DLC packs for Borderlands 2. I am going to stick with my original PS Vita. Will you get the new Playstation Vita?

Sony Plans to sell their PC Business

Sony confirmed that they plan to sell their PC Business to Japan Industrial Partners. This is a bold move for Sony. Their plan is to come to an agreement by the end of March 2014.  Japan Industrial Partners plan is to set up a new company to handle the VAIO brand. Sony plans to focus on the mobile and tablet market. This is a smart move considering consumers interest in mobile devices.

Playstation Now

Yesterday Sony announced a new service called Playstation Now. Playstation Now will allow users to play Playstation 3 games on various devices using the cloud. Playstation Now will be available on the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Playstation Vita and select Sony T.V’s to start off with. Playstation Now is coming to the United States this Summer. Sony is able to leverage this technology with Gaikai. I am excited to try out this new technology because I missed out on the Playstation 3. Gamers have the ability to rent specific titles or to buy a subscription to the service.

PS4 Unboxing Videos

The Playstation 4 came out last Friday on November 15th in North America. I enjoyed searching youtube for creative unboxing videos.  One user boogie2988 decided to throw his Xbox 360 to make room for the PS4. Everything in this video was so surprising. When I first clicked on the video I thought that it was going to be a regular unboxing video.

IGN also did a creative unboxing video. They decided to have everyone in the office unbox the system at the same time. One individual decided he would unbox the Gamecube.  I think he was a few generations off.

Finally I watched a more traditional Playstation 4 unboxing video. What is your favorite PS4 unboxing video? My favorite one was the unboxing by boogie2988, I thought his was the most entertaining.
